about

The Olde Souls and the Makeshift Band Columbus, Ohio

Tired of playing boring gigs to bored audiences, a pair of singer-songwriters/lifelong friends decided to join forces and start a band. Assembling a cast of friends around them they formed the Epic (read: Pretentious) Folk group "The Olde Souls". They may never be famous, they may never find their music in regular rotation on radio, but they'll be sure to entertain, and have a good time doing it. ... more

Track Name: The Bells
Well I told myself that I'd be alright
But that was before I had seen the Light
And I heard the call of that Heavenly Choir
Was baptized by Holy Fire

There came a time that I couldn't believe
That that's all there was and that's all that would be
So I sold my soul and I sold my home
All for that finder's fee

So hear the Bells as they ring
They only ring once and they're calling for me
And I'll set sail across that sea
This spirit is finally free

Where I come from you know it's been said,
"You only live once" and that "Soon you'll be dead."
But I know the source to allay all my fears
So I look to the Letters in red

So hear the Bells as they ring
They only ring once and they're calling for me
And I'll set sail across that sea
This spirit is finally free

My eyes did close, I had breathed my last breath
And I wandered so aimlessly into the depth
Now I heard His voice from deep in the night
And I quickly hastened my step

So hear the Bells as they ring
They only ring once and they're calling for me
And I'll set sail across that sea
This spirit is finally free

So hear the Bells as they ring
They only ring once and they're calling for me
And I'll set sail across that sea
This spirit is finally free
This spirit is finally free
Track Name: Song About A Man
This is a song about a man
Who wants to lend a helping hand
He doesn't play by all the rules
He's mistaken for a fool
This is a song about a man

This is a song about a lie
One that's been told for all of time
A lie that says we are alone
And we can make it on our own
This is a song about a lie

And the irony abounds
And what was lost has now been found
And the lie becomes truth
As the myth finds its proof

This is a song about their land
Something that's nothing more than sand
And yet it's taken all their lives
And it's never satisfied
This is a song about their land

This is a song about their freedom
And all the trouble that it brings them
They are never really free
They all bow down upon a knee
This is a song about their freedom

And the irony abounds
And what was lost has now been found
And the lie becomes truth
As the myth finds its proof

This is a song about us all
About a life after the Fall
About what we all have done
We can't blame it on no one
This is a song about us all

This is a song about Redemption
In spite of all our nagging questions
About a Love we cannot see
but never fails to set us free
This is a song about Redemption

And the irony abounds
And what was lost has now been found
And the lie becomes truth
As the myth finds its proof
This is a song about a man
Track Name: We'll Be Alright
Let me tell you a little story about a boy and girl
Who found a bit of love in this great big world
Alright. Alright.
And they grew up fast and set their minds to gettin' hitched
And they both said "I do" back in sixty-six
Alright. Alright.
Well life ain't easy and times got rough
But when you've got someone to love it's more than enough
Alright. Alright.
And he told her, "One day, no matter what goes down,
We're both very lucky for the love we have found."
Alright. Alright.

He said, "We'll be alright, we'll be
Alright."
He said, "We'll see it through to the other side, we'll see it through
To the other side."

Well old Uncle Sam he came a-callin' for war
And he packed up his things and quit his job at the store
Alright. Alright.
And you've heard the story told at least a thousand times
He held her in his arms and they both started cryin'
Alright. Alright.
He said, "Girl, I don't pretend to know what awaits me over there,
But I'm pretty damn sure that I'm in for a scare."
Alright. Alright.
"But I want you to know that I know that you're here
And as long as that's true then there's no need to fear."
Alright. Alright.

He said, "I'll be alright, I'll be
Alright."
He said, "I'll see you on the other side, I'll see you on
On the other side."

Well it was just about a year before she heard the news
And she opened that letter back in seventy-two
Alright. Alright.
It said, "Ma'am, we're very sorry but your husband is lost..."
And "...sometimes this freedom it comes at a cost."
Alright. Alright.
"Attached is a note that he gave to a friend,
He wrote it for you right before the end."
Alright. Alright.
It said, "If I die from some mortal wound,
I love you, Babe, and I'll see you soon!"
Alright. Alright.

He said, "You'll be alright, you'll be
Alright."
He said, "I'll see you on the other side, I'll see you on
On the other side."

He said, "We'll be alright, we'll be
Alright."
He said, "We'll see you on the other side, we'll see you on
On the other side."
Track Name: New Orleans
Went on down South now, to New Orleans
Met me a woman, pretty as could be
She was a singer, and I was a thief
We spent our nights a-drinkin' down on Bourbon Street

There's not a night that passes me by
That I don't think about what I left behind
For all of my wanderin', there's one thing I've seen
The woman that I loved the most, I left in New Orleans

It wasn't long now till the law caught up to me
I ran to her quick as I could move my feet
I said to her, "Darlin', there's no time to be neat.
Johnny Law's behind me, and we have to leave."

There were tears in her eyes now, as she looked up at me
Her voice was a-quiverin' as she said solemnly,
"What about my music? You know I want to sing.
Runnin' from the law-dogs is no place for me."

There's not a night that passes me by
That I don't think about what I left behind
For all of my wanderin', there's one thing I've seen
The woman that I loved the most, I left in New Orleans

I hopped the train to Memphis before the law caught up to me
I changed my name and story, and I lived my life free.
Done five years a-wanderin' since I left New Orleans
Plenty of travelin' both sides of the Mississippi

There's not a night that passes me by
That I don't think about what I left behind
For all of my wanderin', there's one thing I've seen
The woman that I loved the most, I left in New Orleans
The woman that I loved the most, I left in New Orleans
Track Name: Rhythm vs. The Eternal Soul (Purple)
When I was a young boy, and a hellion at that
My mother drug me off to church, and in that back row I sat
Tryin' to mind my business, and ask the Lord to keep His own
But time again, I'd hear that same old song

Don't you know that Groove, Groove, Groove
That Groove would move my feet
And you know those Words, Words, Words
Those Words would speak to me
And you know there's Love, Love, Love
Love in that memory
And the beat goes on, the beat goes on, and the beat goes on

Years passed by like hours, and I seemed to lose my way
I was a-boozin' and a-fightin' all the night and day
Till one night I found myself standing in that door
And in that night, that preacher's voice I heard

And you know that Groove, Groove, Groove
The Groove would move my feet
And you know those Words, Words, Words
Those Words would speak to me
And you know there's Love, Love, Love
Love in that memory
And the beat goes on, the beat goes on, and the beat goes on

Someday soon my body will be six feet underground
And staring at St. Peter at the Pearly Gates I'll be found
And there will come a noise from those on the other side
And one last time that old tune will rise

And you know that Groove, Groove, Groove
The Groove would move my feet
And you know those Words, Words, Words
Those Words would speak to me
And you know there's Love, Love, Love
Love in that memory
And the beat goes on, the beat goes on, and the beat goes on

And you know that Groove, Groove, Groove
The Groove would move my feet
And you know those Words, Words, Words
Those Words would speak to me
And you know there's Love, Love, Love
Love in that memory
And the beat goes on, the beat goes on, and the beat goes on

And you know that Groove, Groove, Groove
The Groove would move my feet
And you know those Words, Words, Words
Those Words would speak to me
And you know there's Love, Love, Love
Love in that memory
And the beat goes on, the beat goes on, and the beat goes on
Track Name: Welcome Home
Forgive me, friend, if I seem cold
But I've played this game and it's getting old
And I don't know what to do with you

Time and time and time once again
You've broken promises and you've committed sins
And I know you, and you know me, but who the hell are we?

Good things come to those who wait
And I've done my best, but it's getting late
Everything inside of me, says to give up on you

Your words come easy and your talk is cheap
And you're running out of promises not to keep
I can see now, that it's wearing down on you too

And I'll leave the light on
The front door's open
I'm waiting for you
And I'll leave the light on
The front door's open
I'm waiting for you

Every time I think you're settling down
You pack up all your things and you go ahead and skip town
And you take what little's left of me with you

You're like the prodigal son and Hosea's wife
All rolled up in a ball and you're wielding a knife
And I can see in your eyes that the night's not been kind to you

Just when I thought that you'd left this place
You show up in that door and show your pretty face
And I can't help but think that things will be better this time

And I'll leave the light on
The front door's open
I'm waiting for you
And I'll leave the light on
The front door's open
I'm waiting for you

Maybe you're back from where you lost your way
And maybe sometimes the only words to say are: "Hello"
And "Welcome Home."
Track Name: Sing To The Wind
I walked down the shoreline, just the other day
You weren't there and I was so lonely
Maybe in the future my soul can be saved
But right now my spirit rolls like these waves

I sing to the Wind
I sing to the Wind

Somehow I heard your voice over the waves
Clear as a bell I could hear you say
"Stop lookin' back on mistakes from your past
You'll never move forward if you keep lookin' back."

There's a moment in life when we've all got to ask,
"What am I living for?"

I sing to the Wind
I sing to the Wind
I sing to the Wind

And I pray, yes I pray
It brings you back to me again

I walked down the shoreline, just the other day
You weren't there and I was so lonely
Maybe in the future my soul can be saved
But right now my spirit rolls like these waves
Track Name: Worldwide Suicide
There is something beautiful
In a man who's about to fall
Would you hold my hand?

Will we finally see the cost
When everyone we love's been lost?
Would you help me try to stand?

So I say goodbye to all my friends
I can see the future: it all comes to an end
There's nowhere to run; there's nowhere left to hide
So take a front row seat to a worldwide suicide

Look inside and you will see
Something that will always be
Would you let me know what you find?

You've been over there and back again
We looked inside, we're only men
We can never seem to hide

Goodbye to all my friends
And I can see the future: it all comes to an end
There's nowhere to run; there's nowhere left to hide
So take a front row seat to a worldwide suicide

Goodbye to all my friends
And I have seen the future: it all comes to an end
There's nowhere to run; there's nowhere left to hide
So take a front row seat to a worldwide suicide
So take a front row seat to a worldwide suicide
So take a front row seat to a worldwide suicide
Track Name: One
Many have traveled in search of an answer
And many have found there are none
And all of the roads that were meant to walk on
They all lead back to One

One Love, One Life, on that sacred night
The world wasn't all that it seemed
"You could be Everything I will ever need"
So sing the redeemed

And I've borrowed slogans and bumper sticker doctrines
But they can't bring me hope
I've given support in spite of my questions
But I've grown tired of that show

One Love, One Life, on that sacred night
The world wasn't all that it seemed
"You could be Everything I will ever need"
So sing the redeemed

A Republican Jesus is not who I follow
But the Father, the Spirit and the Son
All of my answers have turned into questions
But they all lead back to One

One Love, One Life, on that sacred night
The world wasn't all that it seemed
"You could be Everything I will ever need"
So sing the redeemed

One Love, One Life, on that sacred night
The world wasn't all that it seemed
"You could be Everything I will ever need"
So sing the redeemed

One Love, One Life, on that sacred night
The world wasn't all that it seemed
Track Name: Anything But Me
Who I am
Who I was
Who I want to be
Is a blur to me right now

Who you are
What this is
What I thought I knew
Doesn't mean what it used to

And I want to be...I want to be anything
Anything, but what I am right now
I want to see...I want to see anything
Anything, but what's right in front of me

And if I could
Turn back time
You know I would
Do things differently

And you know I
Well I walked away
My only hope is when I'm all washed up
That you'll remember me

And I want to be...I want to be anything
Anything, but what I am right now
I want to see...I want to see anything
Anything, but what's right in front of me

And I want to be...I want to be anything
Anything, but what I am right now
And I want to see...I want to see anything
Anything, but what's right in front of me
